NSW: Councils urged to recognise volunteer firefighters
SYDNEY, Jan 2 AAP - Volunteer firefighters who have sacrificed their holidays to protectothers should be reimbursed, NSW Premier Bob Carr said today.
He has called on NSW councils to ensure all their volunteer firefighters currentlyon Christmas holiday leave are reimbursed for their efforts fighting the fires ragingacross the state.
Mr Carr will also ask private companies to do the same.
"Some of those workers would have been on holiday leave when they were called on dutyfrom Christmas Eve and have been working day and night to protect lives and property,"
