Fed: Fifteen Kosovars still on the run
Up to 15 Kosovars remain on the run today, trying to avoid a federal government order
that they return to their homeland.
All 182 Kosovars whose temporary visas ran out this week will be forced home after
a group of them yesterday lost a High Court bid to stay in Australia.
Another 121 people have been allowed to stay and apply for protection visas, while
147 have had their visas extended for medical reasons.
Immigration Minister PHILIP RUDDOCK says up to 15 of the Kosovars are unaccounted for
and are believed to be on the run.
Residents of Albury and Wodonga last night were allowed inside the Bandiana Detention
Centre to support the kosovars' bid to apply for Australian residency.
About 50 people drove to the detention centre, blasting their car horns and chanting:
Let them stay.
