Fed: Howard could learn today if he'll face Cole inquiry

JOHN HOWARD could learn today whether he'll have to testify at the Cole inquiry into
the AWB scandal.

Lawyers for AWB have until 1 pm (AEST) to apply to cross examine the prime minister
.. about his knowledge of 300 million dollars in kickbacks the wheat exporter paid to
a corrupt Iraqi regime.

Mr HOWARD'S sworn statement to the commission was tendered late yesterday .. but it'll
remain confidential for the time being.

Foreign Minister ALEXANDER DOWNER .. the second cabinet minister to face the inquiry
.. said yesterday he had no specific recollection of warnings the government received
about the situation over the past six years.
